Excellent write up and a terrific list. Final Fantasy is definitely up there for me as well, although I started with the original on the NES and it's FF3 on the Super Nintendo that really got me! The Batman Arkham games would be in my top 10 as well, even though I've only played the first 2 - you really ARE Batman in these games and very few other francs ever give you a better sense of "being" the main character. I'd also list the NBA 2K series. Even with their occasional misfire and way-too-heavy-vc-ification of some elements, best sports series hands down and nothing recreates the sense of playing the sport with a friend (or 9) than this.
