After some thought, I have decided not to write any more reviews. I sat down to write my review of Sea of Stars (an incredible game), and I realized a few things. First, since this newsletter is a hobby rather than a job, I have limited free time due to my main job and time as a father. So, if I’m not feeling a game, I would just drop it rather than play through it so I could get a review. For someone in my position, time is money. I remember playing Atomic Heart and wanting to review it, but I quickly realized I wasn’t feeling it and would probably score it as average, so I tapped out. So, what I’m saying is, that my reviews would have stayed super positive, as I most likely loved a game long enough to finish it. So, I have no plans currently to write any more reviews.
That being said, I do want to do something so I can talk about the games I’ve played and left an impact on me. So starting Tuesday, February 20th, I’ll be introducing a new series in place of reviews - Impressions of the Month. These will be articles I can talk to you about what I’ve played or my take on any industry news. They’ll usually be published at the end of the month, so the first one will be a bit early. The first article will tackle my take on the Xbox news, the seemingly now-delayed Switch 2, what I’ve played, and my overall impressions of Sea of Stars.
I still am interested in making a potential podcast, but I think I need more time to think about it and make sure it would make sense with my schedule. After all the sickness I started the year with, I want to get 1P Vault up and running. Look out for the relaunch of Strachey’s List (looking at the most consequential and important games in history) and my History of Gaming series (we’re about to enter the NES golden age!). I also hope to FINALLY get my Side Vault Disney series’ Renessaince Era movie rankings out. Plus, I want to organize the substack page so it’s easier for any newcomers to find older articles.
For anyone subscribed to this Substack or who follows me at Threads, thank you. I have loved the video game industry for a long time and I’m happy I can share my thoughts about it and that people are even interested. Hopefully, I can keep growing this thing.
